The Service Industry No Longer Provides Good Service

I am not invisible, and I shouldn’t be treated as if I am.
Generally, I focus my blog on fascinating facts, fun stories, or personal insights. Hence my tag line: fascinating, fun, and a little Foppi… that’s me. However, today I feel compelled to lodge a complaint against the service industry which seems to have lost the capacity to provide good service. Service industry companies are primarily involved in retail and food services. But many of them no longer provide helpful service with a smile. Of late, I have been exposed to indifference and blatant, in-your-face rudeness from numerous establishments which has led me here… to my blog. Does the breakdown come from the top or bottom? Perhaps the company executives are more interested in spending their overinflated salaries on fancy houses and fast cars then making sure their employees are properly trained. Maybe the pool of potential employees is so jaded that they can’t be bothered to do the job they were hired to do. Or, both the executives and the employees share an exaggerated sense of self-entitlement. I could list conjectures all day long on reasons why, but I would rather focus on a solution and the solution is simple: make the consumer PRIORITY. What’s the point in venturing out into a world where we are treated with dismissive disdain when we can stay in and shop on-line? The consumer chooses how to spend their hard-earned money but you, the Establishment, have the power to make the choice an easy one. Remember Luke 6:31, “do to others as you would have them do to you.”
